Background

KR1 Publishing is run by Karl Otto Kristoffersen, a Norwegian tabletop RPG designer, author, and publisher.

Founded in 2021, the studio grew out of decades of running roleplaying games, developing systems, and building practical tools for the game table. The focus has always been on play that holds up over time, clear structure, and reducing friction during play.

What began as solo publishing has gradually expanded into collaborative work, including external contributors and long-term publishing agreements.

 

Today, KR1 Publishing works across original roleplaying games, OSR-inspired design, and practical resources used by players, game masters, and educators internationally.

The studio operates with a long-term perspective on both design and publishing, prioritizing clarity, sustainability, and thoughtful collaboration.
