Rarity is the share of every title on the store that has reached that badge or better, from DriveThruRPG's own metal legend. Only 350 titles in the entire catalogue carry Adamantine. Mithral is held by 664. Fewer than one title in forty ever reaches Platinum.
Thresholds are the public ones published by DriveThruRPG. A sale only counts if the title sold for at least twenty cents, which is why pay what you want titles rarely earn metals. Their page on badges. Badge artwork is DriveThruRPG's own, published for partners to use.
What the numbers actually mean
A badge is not vanity. It is placement. Once a title carries a metal it shows up in more lists, and lists are where strangers find you. That is why a cheap book that sells steadily can outperform an expensive one that sells in a single burst.
The gap between Copper at fifty one and Gold at five hundred and one looks enormous from below. It is roughly one steady year at fifty copies a month, and most of that comes from the books you launch afterwards pulling the earlier ones along with them.
